These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Longhand app ("Longhand", "the app", "the Service"), published by Digital Sauce ("the Company", "we", "us"). By downloading or using Longhand, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please don't use the app.

1. Who can use Longhand
You must be at least 18 years old to set up or use Longhand. By using the app you confirm that you are 18 or older and able to enter into these Terms.
2. What Longhand does
Longhand lets one family member set up a private space and invite another to answer gentle questions by photographing handwritten pages. The app stores those pages, creates a typed copy using automated transcription, gathers them into a growing "book", and lets you export the archive as a PDF. Some features rely on third-party services (see the Privacy Policy).
3. Your account
- You may use the app anonymously, or sign in with Apple or Google to back up and restore your family across devices.
- You are responsible for keeping access to your sign-in method and your family's invite code secure. Anyone with your invite code, before it is claimed, could join your family space — share it only with the intended person.
4. Your content
- You own your content. The questions you write, the handwritten pages, the photographs, and the transcripts ("Your Content") belong to you and your family.
- Licence to operate the Service. You grant the Company a limited licence to store, process, transcribe, display, and transmit Your Content solely to provide the Service to you and the members of your family (for example, storing photos, generating typed copies, delivering questions, and exporting your PDF). We do not use Your Content for advertising, and we do not sell it.
- Responsibility. You are responsible for Your Content and confirm you have the right to share it, including any photographs of other people. Don't upload content that is unlawful, infringing, or that you don't have permission to share.
5. Automated transcription
Longhand uses automated and AI-based text recognition to produce a typed copy of handwritten pages. Transcriptions may contain errors. The original photograph is always preserved as the authoritative record. You can edit a transcription at any time. Transcription is provided "as is" and should not be relied upon as a perfect or certified copy.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the Service for any unlawful purpose;
- attempt to access another family's data, or to probe, scan, or circumvent our security or abuse-protection measures;
- interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure; or
- misuse the invite or claim mechanism.
7. Contacts and calling
If you use the "Call" feature, the app reads your device contacts on your device to find the person to call and to start a call, message, or WhatsApp chat through the relevant app. The Company does not place calls or messages on your behalf and is not responsible for charges from your carrier or those third-party apps.
8. Purchases and subscriptions
Longhand may offer paid features (for example a lifetime unlock or a yearly subscription) managed through the Apple App Store. No purchases are offered while paid features are turned off. When offered:
- Prices, billing periods, and what's included will be shown before you buy.
- Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the period; manage or cancel them in your App Store account settings.
- Payments are processed by Apple and are subject to the App Store's terms. Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies.
9. Availability and changes
We may add, change, or remove features, and we may suspend or discontinue the Service. We aim to give reasonable notice of significant changes where we can, but the Service is provided on an ongoing, best-effort basis.
10. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, to the maximum extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that transcriptions or backups will be complete or accurate. Keep your own copies of anything important to you.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Company will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, arising from your use of the Service. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law (including any non-excludable consumer guarantees).
12. Termination
You may stop using Longhand and delete your data at any time (see the Privacy Policy). We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms or misuse the Service.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Australia, and the courts of Australia will have non-exclusive jurisdiction, without affecting any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have where you live.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
