How to request deletion
You can delete your data in either of these ways. Both permanently remove your Longhand account and your family's archive.
Option 1 — In the app
- Open Longhand and tap More.
- Tap Delete account.
- Confirm when prompted. Your account and family archive are then permanently deleted.
You can also delete individual questions or stories at any time from within the app, without deleting your whole account.
Option 2 — Request it here
Submit the form below, or email development@digitalsauce.io with the subject "Delete my Longhand account" from the email linked to your account. We'll verify the request and delete your data.
Request received.
We've logged your deletion request and will email the address you gave us to confirm once it's complete — within 30 days, and usually much sooner.
What gets deleted
When your account is deleted, we permanently remove all of the following from our systems:
- Your account identifiers (anonymous ID, and any linked Apple or Google sign-in identifier and email).
- Your family's invite code and connection.
- All questions you created or selected.
- All stories — the photographs of handwritten pages, any attached photos, and the typed (AI) transcripts.
- Any notes you added to tailor question suggestions.
- Your delivery and notification preferences, and your push notification token.
What is kept, and for how long
- Active data: deleted from our live systems (Google Firebase / Firestore and file storage) within 30 days of a verified request — usually within a few days.
- Backups: residual copies in routine, encrypted backups are purged on our normal backup cycle, within a further 90 days.
- Legal/financial records: if you ever made an in-app purchase, we may retain minimal transaction records where required by law (for example, for tax and accounting), then delete them when no longer required. We do not retain your stories, photos, or transcripts for this purpose.
We do not sell your data, and deletion applies to both members of a family archive.
